About The Role

The Shipping and Receiving Lead plays a critical role in managing and overseeing all aspects of the shipping and receiving operations within the organization. This position ensures that all incoming and outgoing shipments are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The lead is responsible for coordinating with various departments to maintain inventory accuracy, optimize workflow, and resolve any logistical issues that arise. They will supervise and mentor a team of shipping and receiving staff, fostering a productive and safe work environment. Ultimately, this role is essential for maintaining the smooth flow of goods, supporting customer satisfaction, and contributing to the overall operational success of the company.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in shipping and receiving or warehouse operations.

Proven experience in a supervisory or lead role within a logistics or warehouse environment.

Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, inventory control, and safety regulations.

Proficiency with shipping software and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.

Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP).

Familiarity with hazardous materials handling and DOT regulations.

Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities to ensure timely and accurate processing of shipments.

Coordinate with warehouse, inventory, and logistics teams to maintain accurate stock levels and documentation.

Manage and train shipping and receiving staff, providing guidance and performance feedback.

Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for quality and accuracy, resolving discrepancies as needed.

Maintain compliance with safety regulations and company policies related to shipping and receiving operations.

Utilize shipping software and systems to track shipments and generate reports for management.

Collaborate with carriers and vendors to schedule pickups and deliveries, negotiating rates when applicable.

Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce errors in shipping and receiving workflows.

The Shipping and Receiving Lead uses strong organizational and leadership skills daily to coordinate complex shipping schedules and manage a team effectively. Attention to detail is critical when inspecting shipments and maintaining accurate inventory records to prevent errors and losses. Communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and carriers to ensure smooth operations and resolve issues promptly. Proficiency with shipping software and data management tools enables the lead to track shipments, generate reports, and analyze performance metrics. Additionally, problem-solving skills are frequently applied to optimize workflows, improve efficiency, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
