The firm offers legal counsel in the area of family law and is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant who can also perform paralegal duties to support the attorney and help manage client matters from start to finish.
Position Overview:
The Legal Assistant will work closely with the attorney to manage case files, conduct research, draft documents, coordinate with clients, and ensure the smooth operation of the legal practice. This dual-role position requires strong organizational skills, legal knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic legal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and proofread correspondence, legal documents, contracts, pleadings, and other filings
- Organize and maintain physical and digital case files
- Conduct legal research and summarize findings for attorney review
- Coordinate and communicate with clients, courts, government agencies, and opposing counsel
- Assist with preparing discovery responses, exhibits, and case summaries
- Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling client meetings, court appearances, and deadlines
- Prepare and file legal documents with appropriate courts or agencies (electronic and physical filing)
- Perform notary duties, if licensed
- Track billable time and assist with invoice preparation, when required
- Support administrative functions as needed (e.g., mail handling, file scanning, ordering supplies)
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate preferred
- Fluency in Spanish
- 2 years of experience in a law firm or legal office setting
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and legal case management systems
- Familiarity with state and federal court rules and filing procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact with clients and legal professionals
