POSITION PROFILE
Perform therapeutic massages on clients to relieve pain, reduce stress, and improve physical and emotional well-being by manipulating soft tissues. Key duties involve consulting with clients about their health history and needs, assessing their physical condition, creating and performing customized treatment plans using various techniques, and maintaining accurate client records. They also educate clients on self-care, maintain a clean and safe workspace, and sometimes collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILTIES
- Consult with clients to understand their health history, lifestyle, and reasons for seeking a massage, and assess areas of stress or pain.
- Develop and recommend personalized massage treatment plans based on the client's needs.
- Administer therapeutic massages using various techniques (like Swedish, deep tissue, or sports massage) and tools (such as hands, elbows, and forearms) to manipulate soft tissues and joints.
- Advise clients on stretching, relaxation methods, and other self-care practices to complement the massage and improve their well-being.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Completion of an accredited massage therapy program and a current, valid state license or certification are typically required.
- A deep understanding of the human body and its systems is essential for effective and safe treatment.
- Strong communication, empathy, and a professional demeanor are crucial for building trust and ensuring a positive client experience.
- The ability to manage appointment times effectively and handle other business tasks is important for a steady clientele.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
