A Brief Summary Of This Position
The Material Handler is an individual contributor role responsible for supporting manufacturing operations through the safe and efficient movement, storage, and handling of materials and products throughout the facility. This highly motivated individual ensures production areas are properly supplied, inventory is accurately maintained, and materials are handled in accordance with manufacturing, inventory control, and safety procedures. This position may also assist with additional material handling and operational support activities as needed.
Essential Functions
Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to all conditions that exist in the plant such as dust, dirt, grease, heat, fumes, odors, wet conditions, and cold as well as noise levels above 80 decibels. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. In addition, the nature of the industry results in extreme heat in the summer (typically 10-15 degrees above outdoor temperature) and melting snow off incoming material results in damp, cold working conditions in the winter. These conditions range from severe to mild and can happen daily in any combination. Encounters typical environment and risks associated with steel yards, weld shops and manufacturing facilities. Many aspects of this role are physical, and the incumbent must be able to lift, push, &/or pull up to 50 pounds by hand. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and arms as well as balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb and work from ladders. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to distinguish colors, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Physical demands include operating a forklift for an extended period of time each shift and climbing in and out of a forklift numerous times each shift.

Essential Functions
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices.
- Promote and support a strong safety culture by leading through example.
- Prioritize work with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Supply manufacturing workstations with materials from inventory storage locations.
- Locate, retrieve, and transport parts and materials throughout the facility.
- Store materials in designated inventory locations accurately and efficiently.
- Label containers and boxes with part descriptions and quantities as required.
- Receive, inspect, and process incoming material shipments.
- Load and unload trucks and transport vehicles as necessary.
- Report damaged materials to the Lead, Shift Supervisor, Manufacturing Manager, and/or Plant Manager.
- Verify inventory levels and assist with inventory accuracy efforts.
- Report material shortages or discrepancies to appropriate leadership.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the production and material handling areas.
- Operate forklifts and, where applicable, overhead cranes to move materials and equipment safely.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment while contributing to the production of quality products delivered complete and on time to customers.
- Demonstrate accountability and ownership for assigned responsibilities and daily work activities.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating a forklift in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Previous forklift certification or the ability to successfully obtain certification.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings, blueprints, and inventory documentation.
- Experience using tape measures, gauges, and other measuring tools accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Experience using IFS or similar inventory management systems preferred.
- Where applicable, ability to operate overhead cranes and obtain crane certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Inventory control and warehouse operations experience.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to adapt and perform in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- A high level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to operational excellence.
- A positive attitude with a strong work ethic and passion for delivering results.
