Overview
We are seeking a skilled Solar O&M Field Technician with strong experience in Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both central and string inverters, along with a solid understanding of solar PV system components, safety standards, and field diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on C&I solar PV systems.
- Conduct diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of central and string inverters (e.g., SMA, ABB, Sungrow, TMEIC, Schneider, etc.).
- Execute on-site inspections, electrical testing, thermal imaging, IV curve tracing, and system performance evaluations.
- Identify and resolve issues related to modules, combiner boxes, disconnects, AC/DC wiring, communication systems, and monitoring hardware.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, test results, and system performance data.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, NEC codes, and OSHA requirements.
- Coordinate with remote monitoring teams to address system underperformance.
- Support commissioning activities for new or upgraded equipment.
- Provide detailed service reports and recommendations for system improvement.
Requirements
- Experience in Solar O&M, preferably on C&I or utility-scale systems.
- Proven knowledge of central and string inverter troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of DC/AC electrical systems, PV module technologies, and BOS components.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, SLDs, and technical manuals.
- Proficient with diagnostic tools (multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, IV curve tracers, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors and at heights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical license or certification (Journeyman, NABCEP, etc.).
- Experience with SCADA and monitoring platforms.
- Familiarity with data loggers, communication protocols, and networking basics.
- Experience in utility-scale solar projects is a plus.
