What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse Surg Trauma position at Valleywise Health System?
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager (or Executive DON, Ambulatory), the Advanced Clinical Nurse delivers high-quality, age-appropriate nursing care in close partnership with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. This role is central to ensuring safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care for patients across diverse clinical settings.
As an Advanced Clinical Nurse, you will lead all aspects of patient care, including comprehensive assessments, medication administration, identifying and addressing patient needs, and developing individualized plans of care. You will provide or delegate care in accordance with Valleywise Health policies, serve as a strong patient advocate and educator, and maintain accurate and timely documentation. The role also includes indirect supervision of ancillary personnel and active participation in team building, collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This position reflects advanced professional practice, consistently demonstrating clinical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering meaningful, cost-effective care in a diverse healthcare environment. You will also contribute to the advancement of nursing practice through engagement in leadership activities, mentoring, and quality improvement efforts.
Hourly Pay Rate: $35.52 - $52.39
Qualifications
Education:

Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing.
Experience:
-
Must have at least one (1) year of recent acute care hospital RN experience that demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities, or if completed the New Grad RN program at Valleywise Health then must have at least one (1) year of Valleywise Health experience as a RN and be in good standing.

Previous acute care hospital experience in the area he or she is applying for is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:

Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, a temporary AZ RN license, or a valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.

Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.

Requires a BLS card obtained through an American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire.

Must have ACLS upon hire or transfer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must.

Bilingual is preferred.

Must have excellent communication, time management, and customer service skills.

Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g., formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer successfully.
