Patient Access Services – Financial Counselor

Support Patients & Drive Accurate Reimbursement
At Valley Presbyterian Hospital, our Patient Access team plays a critical role in both patient experience and financial integrity. We’re seeking a detail-oriented Financial Counselor to support insurance verification, authorizations, and patient financial counseling to ensure accurate reimbursement and a seamless patient experience.
What You’ll Do
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain required authorizations for ER and inpatient accounts
- Ensure all patient accounts are accurate, complete, and properly documented
- Identify payor sources and assign correct financial class and billing information
- Collect copays, deductibles, and deposits; establish financial arrangements as needed
- Communicate financial responsibilities and non-covered services to patients
- Review in-house accounts and reports to ensure timely reimbursement
- Document all verification, authorizations, and account activity in the system
- Collaborate with case management, billing, and verification teams to resolve issues
- Refer problem accounts to appropriate departments and ensure timely follow-up
- Assist with patient registration and consent documentation as needed
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience in healthcare, insurance, or related field
- Knowledge of patient accounting, insurance verification, and payor systems
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Computer proficiency
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain LA City Fire Card and MOAB certification within 30 days
Preferred
- Experience in hospital admissions, financial counseling, or physician office setting
- Coursework or certification in medical terminology or patient accounting
