JOB DESCRIPTION

Valley Vital Care is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to serve as the senior nursing leader for our enterprise. This role is responsible for nursing practice standards, clinical quality oversight, competency development, survey readiness, and nursing operations standardization across all sites of service.

The DON partners closely with the Pharmacy Director, Compliance Director, Clinical Operations Managers, Regional Operations Directors, and executive leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and patient-centered care delivery. This is not a day-to-day site operations role — operational accountability resides within the clinical operations structure. The DON provides nursing governance, clinical leadership, and the enterprise nursing operating standard.

Reports to the Chief Operating Officer. Centrally based with approximately 25–40% travel to sites, concentrated around de novo openings, survey windows, quality events, and integrations.

Nursing Practice & Clinical Quality

  • Establish and maintain enterprise nursing standards, workflows, and best practices across all sites of service
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality infusion and specialty clinical care across home infusion, ambulatory infusion suites, and specialty service lines
  • Lead nursing quality initiatives focused on patient outcomes, safety, and clinical excellence
  • Standardize nursing practices so that the same therapy is delivered the same way at every site
  • Monitor nursing-related quality indicators and partner with operational leaders on improvement initiatives

Regulatory & Survey Readiness

  • Partner with the Compliance Director to maintain ongoing survey readiness and regulatory compliance
  • Support accreditation activities, state board readiness, policy implementation, and corrective action planning
  • Ensure nursing documentation practices align with organizational, payor, accreditation, and regulatory expectations
  • Participate in root cause analysis, clinical event review, and remediation planning
  • Oversee nursing licensure, competencies, and required certifications across the enterprise

Nursing Education & Competency Development

  • Develop and maintain enterprise nursing orientation, onboarding, and competency programs
  • Lead nursing education initiatives and ongoing professional development activities
  • Establish competency validation processes for infusion therapies, specialty medications, and clinical procedures
  • Support development of clinical career pathways and nursing retention initiatives

Scalability & De Novo Readiness

  • Build and maintain the enterprise nursing operating model: staffing frameworks, standardized workflows, and the nursing playbook every site uses
  • Own the nursing labor model including nursing hours per patient encounter, productivity standards, and skill mix targets
  • Lead nursing readiness for de novo openings, relocations, integrations, and acquisitions
  • Apply structured improvement methods to compress variation site over site

Clinical Operations & Pharmacy Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic clinical partner to COMs and Regional Operations Directors
  • Maintain sustained field visibility at sites of service, concentrated at activating, integrating, and at-risk sites
  • Exercise named escalation authority during clinical or survey-risk events
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Director and PICs to ensure aligned clinical operations across sites
  • Promote a strong dyad partnership model between operational, pharmacy, and nursing leadership

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Active RN license in applicable states; BSN required, MSN preferred
  • 5 years of progressive nursing leadership in infusion, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory, acute, or multi-site healthcare operations
  • Experience supporting regulatory readiness, accreditation, and clinical quality initiatives
  • Experience in high-growth or multi-site healthcare environments
  • Track record of nursing standardization using structured methods (Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent)
  • Comfort with clinical and operational data: nursing dashboards, quality metrics, and staffing models

Preferred

  • Home infusion, ambulatory infusion, or specialty pharmacy nursing leadership experience
  • Experience standing up a nursing function from scratch
  • Experience with a survey-readiness program at a multi-site clinical operator

Strategic Deliverables

  • 90-Day Clinical & Survey-Readiness Assessment delivered to the COO covering nursing practice state, survey readiness, competency program maturity, top friction points, and a proposed 12-month plan
  • Ongoing ownership of the enterprise nursing playbook, reviewed quarterly and updated against each de novo and integration
