The Education Coach provides instructional coaching, assessment, and professional development support to Early Childhood education staff and Family Enrichment Specialists. This role focuses on improving teaching practices, curriculum fidelity, and program quality through observation, modeling, feedback, and data-informed coaching strategies. The Education Coach functions in an advisory and consultative capacity, applying adult learning principles and evidence-based coaching models to strengthen outcomes for children, families, and staff.


Coaching and Professional Development

Estimated Effort: 50%

  • Assess education staff and home visitors to identify strengths, areas of growth, and staff who would benefit from intensive coaching.

  • Utilize Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) and Together Learning and Collaborating (TLC) models when coaching staff.

  • Provide opportunities for intensive coaching, including observation, feedback, and modeling of effective teaching practices aligned with program performance goals.

  • Offer research-based professional development to staff not identified for intensive coaching, aligned with program goals.

  • Follow and adhere to the CAC Coaching Plan.

  • Complete and document all coaching activities, including sessions, time spent, resources provided, travel, follow-ups, and progress.

  • Assist teaching staff and home visitors with curriculum planning and implementation.

  • Provide feedback in a supportive, instructive, and non-judgmental manner.

  • Conduct observation and needs assessments for new staff within 45 days of employment.

  • Mentor staff through observation and feedback, identifying strengths, successes, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Support CDA training, certification, and renewal processes for education staff.

  • Collaborate with the Education Team to ensure curriculum fidelity and effective use of data.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy.

  • Participate in scheduled team meetings to support collaborative service delivery.

  • Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.


Monitoring and Program Quality

Estimated Effort: 30%

  • Monitor lesson plans to ensure curriculum adaptations meet individual child goals identified in IEPs, IFSPs, and assessment data.

  • Assist with tracking documentation related to home visits, attendance, screenings, reports, and required records.

  • Monitor children’s educational files for compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Support transition activities into and out of the Early Childhood Program.

  • Participate in program planning and ongoing monitoring, including Program Self-Assessment and Strategic Planning.

  • Assist in monitoring ongoing assessments aligned with Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards.

  • Assist with ordering classroom supplies and training materials as needed.

  • Maintain annual CLASS reliability certification.

  • Assist with CLASS and program quality observations, provide feedback to teaching staff, and support goal-setting for improvement.

  • Support facility maintenance, security, and inventory of equipment and supplies.

  • Participate in and/or document staff meetings as assigned.


Parent, Family, and Community Engagement

Estimated Effort: 5%

  • Document relevant contacts with parents in case notes.

  • Provide limited, emergency transportation support for families when necessary.

  • Encourage family engagement, volunteerism, and participation in program activities.


Transportation

Estimated Effort: 5%

  • Drive safely in compliance with Ohio laws, CAC policies, and regulations.

  • Secure children properly in car seats or safety harnesses.

  • Complete required annual ODJFS Ohio Pre-Service Driver Curriculum training.

  • Complete required driving duties, documentation, and annual T8(V) physical.


Service and Other Responsibilities

Estimated Effort: 10%

  • Adhere to all agency safety policies and procedures.

  • Comply with CAC policies, ODJFS/ODE licensing rules, and Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Maintain knowledge of Community Action programs and local resources.

  • Disclose criminal or traffic offenses that may affect agency insurance coverage.

  • Refrain from use of personal cell phones during classroom time.

  • Participate in committee assignments as assigned.

  • Assist with maintaining clean, organized centers, offices, and classrooms.

  • Support recruitment and enrollment efforts to maintain full enrollment.

  • Substitute for other staff as needed to ensure continuity of services.

  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of annual professional development.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including occasional overnight travel.

  • Maintain a professional, positive, and collaborative demeanor with staff, children, and families.


Minimum Requirements

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or qualifying related degree.

Job-Related Experience:
Teaching experience in home-based and/or center-based settings with children birth to five.

People Management Experience:
This position does not directly supervise employees.

Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations:
None required.

Other Requirements:

  • Physical exam and/or T8(V) exam

  • Updated immunizations

  • BCI and FBI background checks

  • Signed Standards of Conduct form

  • CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Communicable Disease training

  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurability

  • Completion of van pre-service training if required

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work at child level

  • High level of professionalism and adherence to classroom technology restrictions


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring or coaching early childhood staff

  • Extensive teaching experience with children birth to five

  • Training or experience with Parents as Teachers, Conscious Discipline, High Scope, and/or COR Advantage

  • Experience supporting staff through CDA certification processes


Working Conditions

This position operates in a well-lighted office and classroom environment and requires frequent interaction with staff and children. Local and regional travel is required for training, coaching, and program support. Work is fast-paced and involves managing multiple priorities with moderate-to-high levels of stress.
