Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their insurance information, and update medical records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Schedule patient appointments efficiently, manage cancellations, and coordinate follow-up visits to optimize clinic flow.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring accurate billing and documentation review.
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, providing clear information and directing calls appropriately.
- Assist with medical billing processes, including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and collection of outstanding balances related to medical services.
- Maintain organized medical records by filing documents electronically or physically while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Support clinical staff with administrative tasks such as intake procedures, preparing documentation for care plans, and managing office supplies.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office support role, preferably within clinics or dental offices.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix or Eaglesoft.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing accuracy (10 key typing).
- Exceptional customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
- Ability to review documentation thoroughly and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Prior clinic or hospital experience is highly desirable; dental clinic experience is advantageous.
