Duties
- Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures for vascular patients, ensuring all necessary documentation and pre-operative instructions are completed accurately.
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance authorizations, and handle insurance verification processes.
- Review patient medical records, including documentation review of health histories, prior treatments, and relevant diagnostic codes such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and ICD-10 codes.
- Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems to document scheduling details, update patient information, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Communicate effectively with patients via phone or in person to confirm appointments, provide instructions, and address scheduling inquiries with excellent phone etiquette.
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to coordinate care plans and ensure all procedural requirements are met prior to surgery.
- Maintain accurate filing of medical records, manage multi-line phone systems, and perform clerical tasks such as data entry.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical scheduling within a clinical or hospital environment; clinic or dental office experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and familiarity with health information management systems.
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like eClinicalWorks or similar platforms is preferred.
- Ability to verify insurance benefits accurately and handle insurance authorization processes efficiently.
- Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple schedules simultaneously.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations.
- Prior experience in medical billing, documentation review, or care plan coordination is advantageous.
- Strong customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and the ability to handle sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
