Cashier/Customer Service

Job Overview:

Valley Steel Recycling is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Cashier to serve as the frontline operator of our scale and payout system. This individual will be responsible for weighing incoming materials, entering transaction details into our software, and issuing payments to customers in a timely and accurate manner. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, organized, and comfortable with both technology and cash handling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet and assist customers in a professional and courteous manner
• Accurately weigh incoming and outgoing materials using the scale system
• Enter customer and transaction data into our recycling software system
• Determine material types and classifications when required
• Handle cash, check, or electronic payments and issue receipts to customers
• Reconcile cash drawer and maintain transaction records at the end of each day
• Communicate effectively with the yard team to coordinate material flow
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Follow safety procedures and company policies at all times

Qualifications:

• BA Degree or equivalent
• Previous experience as a cashier, scale operator, or in a similar customer-facing role is a plus
• Computer skills and ability to learn new software.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes outdoor environment
• Must be dependable and punctual

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in a recycling or scrap yard environment
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
• Knowledge of metal types or scrap classification helpful but not required

Work Conditions:

• Office environment adjacent to outdoor yard
• Occasional exposure to weather conditions and yard activity
• Standard work hours with occasional overtime based on business needs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
