The Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a friendly, reliable, and nurturing Before & After School Caregiver in Essex to support families and children in our community by providing safe, attentive supervision in our Before & After School programs. What You’ll Do
- Provide active supervision and positive engagement for children in Child Watch programs.
- Learn and address children by name to build rapport and support a welcoming atmosphere.
- Introduce children to program rules, routines, and designated activity areas.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each child, including accurate attendance tracking.
- Report all accidents or incidents promptly and complete required documentation.
- Follow all YMCA policies and regulatory procedures to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and age-appropriate program space, including equipment and supplies.
- Support implementation of themed activities, special projects, and enrichment experiences.
- Communicate respectfully and positively with parents, members, youth, and coworkers.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.

What We’re Looking For
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of children and families.
- Commitment to promoting a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
- Must meet minimum age requirement of 16.
- Previous experience working with children in childcare, education, or developmental programs preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize, and support developmentally appropriate activities.
- Professionalism and maturity when interacting with children, families, and staff.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate clearly with parents and coworkers.
- Child Abuse Prevention training required within 7 days of hire.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire (YMCA can provide training).
