Position Summary:
The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of injection molds used in the production of plastic parts. This role plays a critical part in ensuring consistent part quality, maximizing mold uptime, and supporting efficient production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on injection molds, including cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and component replacement
- Troubleshoot and repair molds experiencing performance issues such as flash, short shots, or part sticking
- Disassemble, diagnose, and rebuild molds using precision tools and machinery
- Support mold changes and setups in collaboration with process technicians and production staff
- Maintain accurate records of mold performance, maintenance activities, and tooling inventory
- Operate tool room equipment (grinders, mills, lathes, etc.) to fabricate or repair mold components as needed
- Ensure molds are properly stored, labeled, and organized according to company procedures
- Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards at all times
- Communicate tooling concerns or improvement opportunities to engineering, maintenance, or quality teams
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship in tooling or mold-making preferred
- 2 years of experience in tooling, mold maintenance, or related field in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient with hand tools, micrometers, dial indicators, and basic machining equipment
- Working knowledge of injection mold components, including hot runners, cooling systems, and ejector mechanisms
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Manual dexterity required for working with small parts and precision tools
- Exposure to manufacturing and tool room environments (noise, oil, heat, etc.)
