Summary
This position is eligible for a $2000 hiring bonus
Shift differential is offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts
The Communications Systems Technician ensures the seamless operation, maintenance, and optimization of an organization's communication infrastructure including variable message boards (VMB), CCTV, Public Address (PA) systems and fare collection machines. This role is critical in enabling effective and uninterrupted communication across various platforms, including voice, data, and video systems. The technician will install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair communication systems and networks, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and security. By doing so, the Communications Systems Technician supports the organization's ability to operate efficiently and remain connected in a rapidly evolving technological environment.
This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow up testing.

Education
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Experience
Two (2) years of full-time professional experience in basic network operating systems and equipment such as routers, switches, and hubs.
Directly related experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Must be available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime and odd and unusual hours; may be called in on day-off to respond to emergencies.
Desired Qualifications
Associate's Degree in electrical/electronic technology from a two year Technical College or institute
Light rail transit experience
Medical Examination
Employment is contingent upon passing a DOT physical examination.
Drug Test
This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program.
Background Investigation
Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation including a personal credit check.
Licenses And Certifications
Valid Arizona Driver's License and a safe driving record.
Incumbent is required to have a Class B CDL permit prior to attending New Employee Orientation and obtain a full Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 90 days of hire.

Repairs electrical, electronic, mechanical network, communications and fare collection systems equipment
Tests and troubleshoots electronic components and systems, repairs or orders and replaces components, rewires systems, and tests equipment prior to placing back into service
Responds to service emergencies providing online troubleshooting and repair of all electronic, electro-mechanical equipment including located in wayside facilities and passenger stations communications and fare collection equipment
Maintains parts inventory and computer inventory records
Compiles reports of inspections, repairs made, and equipment requiring replacement
Performs preventative maintenance on all communications and fare collection equipment
Investigates and locates problems or failures and takes the proper corrective action
Ensures that proper safety precautions are followed, particularly around energized circuits
Attends safety and training meetings; participates in emergency preparedness systems
Maintains and repairs LRT wayside communication and SCADA system equipment
Maintains and repairs ticket vending machines (TVMs)
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
Knowledge Of

AC/DC electrical systems, principles of analog and digital electronics, electronic control circuitry and associated mechanical, systems, testing and inspection methods/tools
