Job Overview:
The Laboratory Toxicology Supervisor position is responsible for the technical operations related to Toxicology for Valley Medical and Wellness. This position reports to the Lab Manager, with indirect reporting to the Laboratory Medical Director and CEO for Valley Medical and Wellness. This position is essential for the technical oversight for the laboratory and implementation of LC/MS method and assay development commercial/vendor approved instruments and reagents.
Primary Responsibility:
- Supervises, mentors, and develops technical and non-technical staff in the Toxicology Department through training and competency reviews.
- Responsible for performance reviews, approves and monitors payroll, performance management, hiring and terminations for direct reports.
- Maintains skills and proficiency to perform bench duties on a daily basis.
- Provides productivity goals and quality metrics to laboratory manager and director.
- Helps with enforcing and managing policies and procedures.
- Contributes to updating and writing SOPs as needed.
- Performs and maintains assay quality assurance checks to ensure efficiency and accuracy, escalating any issues to laboratory manager and director.
- Resolves any production errors as requested by management.
- Promotes process improvement and ensures following of best laboratory practices.
- Maintains and evaluates inventory control and reagent/instrument utilization to support laboratory operations and method development.
- Contributes to and manages assay development and laboratory projects as assigned.
- Adequate vision required for close, peripheral, depth perception capabilities, and the ability to adjust focus.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience with LC/MS/MS assays in biological fluids.
- Experience in performing and troubleshooting bioanalytical assays.
- Experience with analysis and interpretation of curves/peaks.
- Experience with adjusting RT, optimizing assay parameters, and troubleshooting failed assay runs.
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems (LabLynx LIMS) and Microsoft Office
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and clients.
- Comfortable making decisions in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Able to handle the physical requirements of the position such as lifting, sitting, standing, and repetitive fine-motor movements.
- Previous R&D experience or ability to perform future R&D work is desired.
Required Education, Experience and Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in chemistry, or biology.
- ML, MLS Degree from an accredited university or ASCP certification
- 4 years relevant work experience in a CLIA certified Toxicology lab.
- 2 years of management experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Word and Excel.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
- Able to work in fast-paced environment to maintain test quality and efficiency.
- Able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Additional Position Details: (hours, locations, commute)
- Lab operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. but may vary based upon business needs and growth of services.
- Full-time with ability to answer calls from leadership on the weekends and outside of standard business hours.
- Job location is the Corporate Lab located in Burnsville, MN.
- There is no commuting requirement for the position as a normal part of work responsibilities.
