What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Break Operator position at Valley Machine & Welding Co.?
Press Brake Operator – Heavy Plate Fabrication
We are seeking an experienced Press Brake Operator for our heavy fabrication shop. This position involves bending, rolling, and forming heavy steel plate, including hardened and abrasion-resistant materials such as AR500. This is heavy plate fabrication—not light-gauge sheet-metal work.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate press brakes to bend and form heavy steel plate
- Roll plate to specified radii, curves, and shapes
- Form hardened and abrasion-resistant plate, including AR500
- Select the proper tooling and determine appropriate setup procedures
- Read fabrication drawings, specifications, and measurements
- Calculate bend locations, angles, and allowances
- Use overhead cranes to position, support, and remove heavy plate during bending and rolling
- Inspect formed parts for correct dimensions, angles, and radii
- Use tape measures, squares, templates, and other measuring tools
- Identify material springback and make necessary adjustments
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Work safely around heavy materials and industrial machinery
- Assist with other fabrication duties as needed
Qualifications
- Previous press brake experience in a heavy fabrication environment is required
- Experience bending and forming heavy plate is strongly preferred
- Experience with AR500 or other hardened plate is preferred
- Plate-rolling experience is preferred
- Overhead-crane experience is required or must be learned quickly
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and accurately measure parts
- Knowledge of tooling, bend allowances, springback, and safe setup practices
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to safe work practices
This position is best suited for someone with heavy plate and structural fabrication experience. Applicants whose experience is limited primarily to light-gauge sheet metal may not be a good fit.
