Senior Manager of Community Programs

Valley Humane Society Pleasanton, CA

What if your job was to grow programs that bring comfort, connection, and care to thousands of people—and the animals who love them?

At Valley Humane Society, our community programs are at the heart of our mission. From pet-assisted therapy dogs visiting hospitals and schools, to keeping pets with families through AniMeals, to expanding access to veterinary care, we are building programs that strengthen the bond between people and pets in meaningful, lasting ways.

We’re looking for a Senior Manager of Community Programs to lead this work into its next chapter of growth.

This is a role for a leader who:

  • Builds strong teams
  • Develops meaningful partnerships
  • Sees the big picture—and knows how to move people toward it

You’ll lead a team of dedicated staff and help shape the experience of 500 incredible volunteers who power our programs every day.

About Valley Humane Society:
Valley Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization incorporated in 1987 with an excellent reputation for quality care and community support. Envisioning a world in which every animal is loved, and every person knows the love of an animal, the organization creates a brighter future for cats and dogs by encouraging and strengthening the bond between people and pets. Valley Humane Society is an equal opportunity employer; the team is guided by the values of Compassion, Companionship, Optimism, Gratitude, Collaboration, and Integrity.

Valley Humane Society is located in beautiful Pleasanton, CA, nestled among rolling hills and close to the Livermore Valley Wine Country. The area boasts year-round recreation, top-rated schools, and a vibrant sense of community. Visit valleyhumane.org to learn more.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead the strategy and growth of programs like:

  • Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy
  • AniMeals (pet food support)
  • Field Veterinary Program
  • Humane Education & community outreach

Your focus will be on three key areas:

  • Growing impact – expanding reach and deepening program outcomes
  • Growing exposure – increasing visibility and community engagement
  • Growing financial support – Building partnerships and program visibility to help contribute to philanthropic support.

You’ll work closely with our leadership team, including Development and Marketing, ensuring these programs are not only impactful—but also visible and well-supported.

Who You Are

You’re someone who:

  • Is energized by people—staff, volunteers, partners, donors
  • Naturally builds relationships and brings others along
  • Knows how to lead through others, not just do the work yourself
  • Can move between big-picture thinking and real-world execution
  • Believes deeply in creating a welcoming, inclusive experience for everyone involved

You don’t need to come from animal welfare—but you do need to care deeply about people, community, and mission-driven work.

Why This Role Matters

This role is central to how Valley Humane Society shows up in the community.

You won’t just be managing programs—you’ll be shaping how people experience our organization, how partnerships grow, and how we expand our impact in the years ahead.

What We Offer

  • A mission-driven, collaborative team
  • The opportunity to lead programs that make a real difference
  • Competitive salary and full benefits package
  • The chance to grow alongside an organization that is evolving and expanding its impact
