Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet organizational goals.

- Plan and coordinate fundraising events that engage the community and promote Valley Hospice's mission.
- Manage donor databases and track contributions using Raiser Edge or Salesforce.
- Prepare proposals and grant applications to secure funding from various sources.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to align fundraising efforts with strategic goals.
- Oversee budgeting for fundraising initiatives to ensure financial accountability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in fundraising, event planning, or public relations within a nonprofit environment.
- Strong skills in budgeting and financial management related to fundraising activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for proposal writing and donor engagement.
- Familiarity with donor management software such as Raiser Edge or Salesforce is a plus.

POSITION TITLE: Philanthropy Director
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
FLSA: Exempt
Position Scope:
The Philanthropy Director, under the direction of the CEO, is responsible for activities related to creating, analyzing, executing, evaluating, and modifying a comprehensive development program for the Valley Hospice. Supervision of Stewardship Associate.

Essential Functions/Performance Factors
- Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Valley Hospice development activities.
- Ensures that Valley Hospice complies with all legal requirements related to fundraising in both Ohio and West Virginia (i.e. collaborates with finance to complete charitable organization registration as required.)
- Answers requests for information.
- Makes sure that every donor is thanked appropriately.
- Analyzes donor data.
- Serves as the primary contact and resource for individuals and entities who wish to support Valley Hospice via contributions, gifts, bequests, grants and/or other means.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of all fundraising programs and the volunteers and/or committee members associated with those programs.
- Collaborates with Stewardship Associate with processing and acknowledgement and recognition of all contributions including memorials and restricted gifts.
- Collaborates with Stewardship Associate with maintenance of donor records. Manages planned giving and major gifts.
- Manages all capital fundraising.
- Collaborates with - Marketing Director to plan Valley Hospice fundraising events.
- a) Attends all Valley Hospice fundraising events.
- b) Approves third party fundraisers as deemed appropriate.
- Maintains a planned giving program.
- Actively pursues planned gifts.
- Develops guidelines for planned giving opportunities.
- Develops recognition for donors of planned gifts.
- Maintains a major gifts program.
- Actively pursues major gifts.
- Develops guidelines for major giving opportunities.
- Develops recognition for donors of major gifts.
- Maintains a cumulative giving program.
- Develops guidelines for cumulative giving recognition.
- Coordinates donor recognition.
- Works collaboratively with the CEO and the Marketing Director to select and approve all donor recognition premiums, programs, signage, etc.
- Coordinates grant application process.
- Works with CEO to identify grant opportunities.
- Develops or oversees development of grant application process.
- Oversees organizational capital fundraising as needed.
- Coordinates and manages capital campaigns, as needed by Valley Hospice.
- Represents Valley Hospice at community events as appropriate.
- Works with area organizations that are sponsoring community events.
- Works with the Valley Hospice Marketing Director to develop or select material to be distributed.
- Coordinates setting up and tearing down displays as appropriate.
- Attends community events as appropriate.
- Works with the – Marketing Director to develop and coordinate all publications, printed materials, and imprinted items related to Valley Hospice development activities.
- Supervises Stewardship Associate.
- Approve team members’ payroll, mileage reports and expense reports.
- Ensure team members compliance with Valley Hospice policies and procedures. Appropriately coach or counsel employees and document all actions.
- Encourages staff development.
- Follows personnel policies closely.
- Maintains high staff productivity.
- Completes competency/supervisory visits and/or performance evaluations on time.
- Participates in professional groups and civic organizations locally, as appropriate.
- Is active in local professional and civic organizations that will help build community recognition for Valley Hospice as deemed appropriate.
- Participates in state and national level professional organizations.
- Is active in state level hospice and fundraising organizations.
- Is active in national level hospice and fundraising organizations such as NHPCO, HCHPP, NHF, AFP and NPHI as appropriate.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
Philanthropy Associate
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in communications or similar field
- Two to Four years of related experience
- Evidence of skills necessary to perform job
- Exhibits excellent communication skills
- Proficient skills using a computer are preferred. Ability to be effectively trained to use computer for job related tasks.
Certifications and Licenses:
Current driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation

The Philanthropy Director must carry out responsibilities in an ethical, professional and confidential manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is exposed to outside weather conditions when traveling between sites. Patients’ home environments are variable with regard to heat, noise, air circulation and conditioning, space, cleanliness, accessibility and all other environmental factors. Inpatient and skilled nursing facility environments are standardized. Office environment in a controlled atmosphere building.
