The Clerical Optometric Assistant ensures an efficient patient flow from check-in to check-out while supporting clinical operations and maintaining outstanding patient experience. This is a dual-role responsible for providing exceptional patient service at the front desk while also delivering high-quality clinical support to optometrists.
Work Experience:
- One year customer service experience and/or training.
- More than one to two years in an Optometric practice or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting, preferred.
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Equivalent combination of education in optometric practice.
- One year experience in a healthcare setting.
Licenses & Certifications:
- BLS upon hire.
Needed Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills to enter patient history, medication and transcribe physician's dictation into patient charts as needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment, functioning for the good of the team over the individual.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and patient volumes.
- Ability to work with patients of all ages.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinic.
- Basic understanding of optical terminology and eyewear components.
- Detail-oriented with accuracy in measurements and billing.
- Ability to learn EHR and optical software systems.
