Title: One-To-One Aide
Program/Dept: Vanguard
Reports to: Program Coordinator
Position Type: 10 Month, Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two years of college or high school graduate with two years experience working with children with special needs in an organized setting.
2. Experience working as a PCA (personal care assistant) or TSS (therapeutic staff support) and training in behavior support techniques is strongly preferred.
3. Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the educational process.
4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
5. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
6. Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The One-To-One Aide assists a certified special education teacher by providing on-going academic, social and/or behavioral programming for one assigned student who requires specialized assistance to maintain progress toward IEP and/or FBA goals. In addition to respecting the rights of our students, a primary focus of the One-To-One Aide is positive behavior support and student safety.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Actively assist in implementing lesson plans, reinforcing instruction/tutoring, and documenting student progress of assigned student throughout the school day.
2. Observe, monitor, and redirect behavior of assigned student during regular classroom time, special class times, transition periods, and on field trips according to school and program procedures. Maintain accurate records on student progress and behavior for school programs and outside agencies as required.
3. Accompany assigned student to art, music, physical education, computer classes, and special events and provide assistance to the specialty teacher during class as needed.
4. Accompany assigned student to individual and group therapy sessions as needed.
5. Assist the teacher with testing, recordkeeping, and progress monitoring for assigned student.
6. Under the teacher’s direction, communicate with parents and staff regarding student progress. Participate in interdisciplinary and inter-agency meetings as required.
7. Provide a nurturing environment for all students. Enforce school policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner to ensure the health and safety of all students. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment.
8. Serve as a mentor for new staff members and a source of information and help for substitute teachers assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
9. Demonstrate competency in each of the VSS core values: Communication and Listening, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Ethics, Professionalism, and Teamwork.
10. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VSS Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.
11. Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and others at all times.
12. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and other meetings as required.
13. Actively participate in at least 20 hours of staff development activities directly related to the job assignment during each school year.
14. Maintain proper credentials for assignment and remain educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences.
15. Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
