Job Summary
- Able to take direction and perform assigned tasks effectively
- Able to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Able to operate telephone system to answer, screen and forward calls, providing information, taking messages, and scheduling referral appointments.
- Determine the financial status of patients and their eligibility for health services
- Ability to assist in a variety of common office procedures and demonstrate good computer skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and providers
- Good problem solving skills
- Accountability of confidential information in regards to HIPPA Compliance
- Uses Greenway (EMR) system, efficiently and effectively
Responsibilities and Duties
- Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
- Run the daily patient count report and provide copy for office manager.
- Pull charts for appointments and verify insurance information, assist patients with paper work, track “walk outs” and call patients to reschedule
- Assembles charts for new patients and prepares charts for walk in patients; checks patient in and out, verifies insurance/benefit coverage and collects co-pays and/or payment toward account balances at the time of service.
- Oversees TV control in waiting area and ensures that the material is kid/adult oriented, notifies immediate supervisor of any major patient complaints, keeps front desk and reception are clean during their shift.
- Maintain office supplies and inventory and advises immediate supervisor of shortages
- Balance money collected during shift
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties; answering patients’ questions
- Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies
Qualifications and Skills
- Stand for extended periods of time; push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop and stretch
- Have the hand eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, etc.
- Have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
