Duties
- Safely operate 14 passenger bus according to traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Assist senior passengers with boarding ensuring comfort and safety at all times.
- Transport senior citizens to various destinations including stores, to and from programming at the Valley Community Center, on field trips, and more.
- Follow established routes and schedules precisely while adapting quickly to traffic changes or unforeseen delays.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and managing behavior professionally.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety features are functional; perform routine maintenance checks as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle logs in accordance with transportation safety regulations.
- Other responsibilities include picking up donations and supplies, running errands for the VCA business office, assisting with agency special events, keeping the Valley bus clean; ensuring maintenance schedules are followed.
- Successful candidates must be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00am-3:00pm Occasional special events may require additional hours and schedule flexing.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus operation with a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse communities.
- Experience working with seniors is preferred.
- Safe, defensive driver with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift heavy objects (minimum of 25 lbs.) safely and perform heavy lifting tasks associated with walker assistance or food pantry items.
- Demonstrated defensive driving skills; ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and emergency stop procedures confidently.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly attitude; patience and professionalism when interacting with passengers of all ages.
The rate of pay is $17/hour.
