What are the responsibilities and job description for the Campus Security Officer position at VALLEY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS?
The Campus Security Officer will provide safety and security for the school campus through proactive patrol of the school property, including monitoring traffic control before and after school as well as during school sanctioned events. The Campus Security Officer will also assist with safety plans/drills and will respond to emergency situations to address immediate security concerns.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the Campus Security Officer for the assigned campus
- Coordinates with and reports to the Director of Security regarding all school safety/emergency procedures
- Provides security when school is in session, normally between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Conducts traffic control before school and after school
- Assists with lock down drills, fire drills, school safety procedures, and executes plans to ensure a safe environment
- Patrols school property to maintain safety and security, enforce school policies, monitor passing periods, provide visibility, and deter crime
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate security/safety concerns
- Maintains confidentiality and follows all school guidelines regarding student, staff and parent interactions
- Provides traffic control, parking directions, and security for crowd control at mutually agreed upon school events and activities
- Adheres to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
- Performs other related assigned duties
Qualifications and Skills:

- Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
- Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license
- Must be VCS certified to conceal carry on a school campus
- Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Must be self-motivated and willing to learn new tasks or skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Ability to multi-task with organizational skills
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with employees, students and outside vendors and businesses
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent and experience in the security field; or
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Prior school security experience
- Law enforcement experience
- Knowledge of security patrol and emergency techniques/procedures
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
- Must be able to work during prolong periods of standing and walking at events
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
- Must be able to travel locally to other school campuses if required
