Facilities Maintenance Technician

Valley Christian Schools is seeking a F/T Facilities Maintenance Technician to provide various maintenance and custodian services. Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Maintenance & Transportation the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general maintenance and overall cleanliness of assigned buildings, floors, equipment, buses, and facilities including, but not limited to, general maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment; cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor grounds; moving furniture; setting up for events; maintenance and care of buildings and grounds; and care and maintenance of buses, carts, and other equipment.

Responsibilities Include:

• Repair and maintain the buildings and grounds on all VCS campuses
• Repair and/or install door locks, light bulbs, drinking fountains/faucets, cabinet knobs, etc.
• Perform carpentry and painting duties
• Mow, trim, and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs
• Perform simple electrical and plumbing repairs
• Cleaning, fueling, and maintenance of school buses and other equipment
• Event setups/teardowns (chair, tables, etc.)
• Cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor grounds
• Perform heavy manual labor- must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly
• Crossing Guard duties as assigned
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

• A minimum of 2 years performing facilities maintenance duties, preferably on a school campus

• Proven ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position (required)

• Operate light motorized equipment and appropriate use of hand tools.

• A valid CA driver’s license

• Ability to perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs and installations

• Ability to perform carpentry and painting duties

• Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team or individually

• Ability to conduct oneself in a manner that is consistent with the Christian values adhered to by the greater school community.

• Ability to regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. and spend lengthy periods of time walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and climbing

• Ability to work assigned holidays, weekends, evenings, and overtime as needed

• Ability to communicate in English sufficiently to safely perform the essential duties of the position, comply with safety and emergency procedures. and communicate information as required.

• Ability to operate equipment such as floor polishing and scrubbing machines, wall washing machines, steam shampooers, vacuum cleaners, yard vacuums, golf cart, lawn mower/edger, and power sweepers.

• Knowledge of safety guidelines when working with chemical cleaners and cleaning equipment

• Ability to physically perform the duties of this position with or without accommodations
