Instructional Aide- Construction Trades

VCTC is seeking a full-time Instructional Aide – Construction Trades to assist Carpentry, HVAC, Electricity and/or Masonry instructors as needed. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic person interested in sharing their knowledge and experience in construction and/or related areas to prepare the next generation of highly trained employees.
The Instructional Aide will provides assistance to the technical instructor(s) in the management and instruction of students; performs related tasks as required and directed; performs work under the direction and supervision of the class instructor(s); however, the assistant may independently carry out particular routine aspects of the instructional program.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrate the ability to positively and appropriately support and assist the instructor in shop settings, classroom, and supervising general construction tasks.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience or 4,000 hours of work experience in building or other trades preferred.
- Last work experience must be no older than 5 years from current time.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and engage students in technical training and to enhance their critical thinking skills and their personal, social and intellectual development.
- Sound moral character and integrity.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of construction
- Demonstrated ability to operate general hand tools and basic shop equipment.
- Knowledge and management of relevant safety standards and practices in shop and construction settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The minimum performance expectations include, but not limited to, the following functions/tasks:
- Reliable attendance and prompt arrival time.
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
- Discusses daily plan with technical program instructor(s) to coordinate instructional efforts;
- Assists in delivering instructions to students;
- Carries out instructional plans as designated by the technical program instructor(s)
- Assists students, individually and in groups, with job tasks to reinforce learning concepts;
- Maintains pleasant and orderly shop, site and classroom environment;
- Assists technical program instructor(s) in maintaining a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff;
- Assists in ensuring the adequate safe supervision of all students;
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment
