What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Valley Building Systems?
The Estimator/Expeditor role is responsible for preparing construction project quotes by material take-offs from plans and specifications provided by sales personnel as well as then ordering material related to completing projects. Projects include all types of construction; however the main focus is on post frame and stud framing. Industries include agricultural, commercial and residential.
· Establish rapport with sales personnel in order to understand the nature of the project.
· Estimating and projecting costs for construction projects from specs turned in from sales personnel.
· Expedite material, supplies, and equipment to complete projects in a timely manner.
· Obtain price quotes from suppliers and vendors (such as trusses, overhead doors, and insulators).
· Implement change orders on projects as changes occur.
· Resolve in timely manner material shortages or other issues related to projects.
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participate in professional associations.
· Contributes to team effort by looking towards ways of improving processes.
· Knowledge of construction methods (post frame, stud frame, SIP panels, steel roofing & siding, concrete).
· Understands the sales personnel’s needs before preparing the bids.
· Need to be fluent in reading blue prints.
· Should understand the instructions of sales personnel and draftsman.
· Proper use of logic and reasoning for the projects to be prepared.
· Ability to learn quickly and work independently with limited guidence.
· Work well in a team environment.
· Excellent attention to detail.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
· Problem solving.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, & other software.

· Time management skills.
· Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and one or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 2-5 years experience of construction estimating.
· Basic knowledge of International Building Codes preferred but not required.
Pay: $30.00 - $42.00 per hour
