Tradesperson
Purpose:
- Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate opening for a Tradesperson in our Norfolk, VA location who will be a key support in performing Corrosion Control, Confined Space and Fire Watch duties on Naval Vessels.
Job Description:
- Facilitates Removal, disposal and replacement of metallic sunshields, scuppers and troughs with composite variants IAW NAVSEA Technical Publication S9078-AC-GYD-010 and “ILS Summary of Composite Components
- Perform corrosion control and preservation on Naval Vessels in tanks, compartments and hulls utilizing specialized coating applications.
- Perform Confined Space Attendant duties to include establishing a communication system with entrants, know potential hazards faced during entry, watch for behavioral effects such as heat exhaustion or disorientation, keep an accurate count and list of names of personnel working in the space.
- Perform Fire Watch duties and must have knowledge the types of fires and how to control them,
- Must know the alarms and signals associated with the duties of a fire watch.
- Must be able to work under general supervision and perform standard work that is dependent on the corrosion control, confined space, and fire watch duties.
- Must have the ability to work from drawings, technical manuals and receive instructions on semi-routine and difficult assignments.
- Must have the ability to use basic hand tools and machinery to perform the corrosion and coating applications.
- Must have the ability to perform multiple tasking and meet critical deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Must have Painting Experience in a ship repair setting.
- Must have high school education or trade school with 2-4 years of industrial related experience.
- Must know the alarms and signals associated with the duties of a fire watch.
- Must be able to work under general supervision and perform standard work that is dependent on the corrosion control, confined space, and fire watch duties.
- Must have the ability to work from drawings, technical manuals and receive instructions on semi-routine and difficult assignments.
- Must have the ability to use basic hand tools and machinery to perform the corrosion and coating applications.
- Must have the ability to perform multiple tasking and meet critical deadlines.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prefer to have knowledge with OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910,1915, 1923.
- Prefer to have knowledge with NAVSEA STD Item 009-32, 009-74, SSPC-1.
Security Requirements:
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance to access public and private shipyards and Naval installations.
- Must meet REAL ID requirements for base and travel access.
Travel Requirements:
- Moderate travel required: 50% - 75%.
- If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
- Repetitive motion, Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Picking, Grasping, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity (depth perception).
- Subject to outside environmental conditions (extreme cold/heat), subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions (affect the respiratory system), frequently work in close quarters and/or function in narrow aisles or passageways (areas that could cause claustrophobia).
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
