Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Fortnite coach to join our team as a part-time esports coach. As a Fortnite coach, you will play a pivotal role in training and mentoring aspiring esports athletes ages 7–17. You’ll help players not only sharpen their mechanics, strategy, and teamwork, but also grow as individuals—building confidence, resilience, and communication skills through structured play. This role also provides opportunities to coach at the highest levels of youth esports, with players advancing to Valhallan’s annual in-person National Championship event in Orlando, FL.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Player Development:
- Mentor players ages 7–17, fostering a growth-oriented mindset both in and out of the game.
- Work closely with individuals and teams to assess mechanical skills (aim, movement, utility usage) and game sense.
- Develop and execute training plans covering aim drills, map awareness, economy management, and team strategies.
- Conduct structured practices and scrims, providing feedback through VOD reviews and group coaching.
- Set measurable goals for player improvement and track progress over the season.
- Promote effective communication, role synergy, and teamwork within teams.
- Help players handle pressure during matches and develop resilience in competitive settings.
- Support events through optional shoutcasting opportunities, providing play-by-play or color commentary for matches.
Fortnite Specific Knowledge:
- Stay updated on the latest meta shifts, agent updates, and professional strategies.
- Teach advanced mechanics
- Break down pro play footage and team VODs to demonstrate tactical concepts.
- Explain in-game tactics in ways that are accessible and age-appropriate for players
Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge and high-level experience in Fortnite, including current meta strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience working with youth (preferred).
- Ability to adapt coaching style to players of varying skill levels.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings and some weekends as needed.
- Must be at least 17 years old.
