What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Nanny and Household Assistant position at VALET VET MOBILE VETERINARY SERVICES?
Part-Time Nanny & Household Assistant
We are seeking a dependable, organized, proactive Nanny & Household Assistant to support our busy family and help keep our home running smoothly.
We have three children, ages 15, 13, and 10. Because our children are older and increasingly independent, this is not a traditional nanny position. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with older children and can provide structure, guidance, transportation, homework support, and care while also helping manage the day-to-day needs of our household.
The ideal candidate is someone who naturally notices what needs to be done, takes initiative, communicates well, and enjoys creating order within a busy home.
Schedule
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Approximately 24 hours per week
This position will work closely with our House Manager, who will help coordinate day-to-day household priorities, schedules, projects, and responsibilities.
Child & School Support
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare lunches and have them ready in the refrigerator for the next school day.
- Fill the children's water bottles for the next school day.
- Make sure backpacks are organized, hung up, and ready for the following morning.
- Prepare snacks for the children after school.
- Help with homework as needed.
- Assist the children with their daily chores while encouraging independence and personal responsibility.
- Help the children stay organized with schoolwork, activities, sports equipment, backpacks, and personal belongings.
- Help prepare for upcoming school events, activities, appointments, projects, and other commitments.
- Provide transportation to activities, appointments, school-related needs, or other destinations as needed.
- Provide appropriate supervision, structure, guidance, and support while encouraging age-appropriate independence.
Household Support
- Perform a light household reset each workday, including straightening common areas, clearing counters, loading or unloading the dishwasher, putting items back where they belong, and helping restore general order to the home.
- Complete one load of family laundry each workday — washing and drying only.
- Clean out and organize the refrigerator weekly.
- Restock the family snack pantry weekly.
- Monitor commonly used household and children's supplies and communicate when items are running low.
- Assist with occasional grocery pickup, household supply pickup, or putting groceries and supplies away.
- Organize one designated area of the home each week from a provided organization list.
- Help keep children's common areas, homework areas, backpacks, shoes, sports equipment, and activity supplies organized.
- Assist with occasional household errands such as returns, pickups, drop-offs, or other family-related needs.
- Help decorate and organize the home for seasonal holidays.
Family Vehicle & Pet Support
- Keep the primary family vehicle tidy and take it through the car wash approximately once per week.
- Take the family dog to its scheduled grooming appointment approximately once per month.
- Assist with occasional pet-related errands or appointments as needed.
Household Planning & Communication
The Nanny & Household Assistant will work closely with our House Manager, to help ensure the household stays organized and prepared.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicate proactively with House Manager regarding schedules, upcoming needs, household supplies, projects, errands, and priorities.
- Participate in weekly household planning and preparation.
- Review upcoming family and children's schedules so necessary supplies, meals, transportation, school items, and activity equipment can be prepared in advance.
- Follow established household systems and routines.
- Communicate when something needs attention rather than waiting for it to become urgent.
- Coordinate responsibilities with Vanessa to prevent duplication and ensure important tasks do not fall through the cracks.
- Help identify opportunities to make household routines more organized or efficient.
- Keep Vanessa informed of completed projects, outstanding needs, or items requiring the parents' attention.
Occasional Extended Care
Occasional overnight or extended care may be requested for parent work trips or family travel.
These dates will always be scheduled well in advance, and ample notice will be provided so availability can be discussed and planned accordingly.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Dependable and punctual.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Proactive and comfortable working independently.
- Someone who notices what needs to be done without requiring constant direction.
- Warm, patient, and confident working with older children.
- Comfortable setting appropriate boundaries while encouraging independence.
- A strong and proactive communicator.
- Comfortable driving children and running household errands.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and adjust when family schedules change.
- Respectful of privacy and comfortable working within a family home.
- Willing to work collaboratively with our House Manager and follow established household systems.
- Interested in becoming a trusted and valued part of our family's routine.
We are looking for someone who enjoys supporting a busy household, creating organization, anticipating needs, and building meaningful relationships with children.
