What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician position at Valentine Eye Care?
We are looking for a full-time or part-time optician, apprentice, or optical assistant to join our small but busy private practice to work in the optical department.
Apprentice opticians are welcome to apply.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED
- Proficiency in English, spelling and grammar is required
- Strong customer service skills
- Adequate basic math skills
- Selling skills
- Familiarity with computers and calculators
- Ability to adapt to and understand optical terminology and technology
Preferred Qualifications
- ABO Certification or equivalent
- Actively participating in the optician apprentice program
- Optical dispensing experience
- Previous customer service and/or retail experience
- Edging experience
Responsibilities will include:
- Assisting patients with frame and lens selection
- Writing up lab orders for glasses
- Ability to take PD with ruler and/or pupilometer
- Ability to take seg height for bifocal and PAL lenses
- Ability to explain to patients the various lens options
- Determining and understanding patient's insurance benefits and being able to accurately explain the information to the patient
- Frame dispensing, frame adjustments and minor repairs
- Working with frame reps
Experience/Skills:
- Have previous experience working in an optometry/ophthalmology/optical office
- Have a high school diploma,
- Have an ABO license or ophthalmic technician certification or optician apprenticeship, but, NOT required
- Have knowledge of EyeMed, VSP and MassHealth frame and lens benefits
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.16 - $22.23 per hour
