JOB SUMMARY
Supervise and inspect the work of laundry staff to ensure a high level of quality and productivity. Clean and store hotel linens in a timely, organized manner to ensure that the hotel’s linen demands are met. Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication with other departments to meet hotel needs. You are also expected to complete any task assigned and your duties as an employee are not limited to this job summary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS
- Operational Responsibilities
- Providing quality linen and towels for the guest.
- Managing inventory
- Record/ track reclaim/ discard and handling chemicals.

- Complete two-week training checklist and job position hands on training.

Physical Requirements
- Standing/Walking: Constantly. Must be able to stand the entire eight-hour shift on tile and cement.
- Stooping (bend at knees): Constantly. During the processing of the linen from the cart to the machines.
- Twisting (knees/waist/neck): Frequently. Process linen from carts to machinery.
- Balancing: Occasionally. Putting linen on carts and shelves.
- Handling /Grasping: Constantly. Handling linen.
- Pushing/Pulling: Average weight occasionally 100 lbs. Maximum weight is occasionally 150 lbs.
- Lifting/Carrying: Average weight frequently 25 lbs. Maximum weight occasionally 50 lbs.
Working Environment
- Interior of the hotel. Exposure to extreme heat and humidity.
- Exposure to hazardous laundry cleaning chemicals in a controlled environment.
Exterior Environment
- Maintain cleanliness of the laundry entrance and loading dock area.
Qualifications
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
- Previous housekeeping/laundry experience preferred.
- Able to read labels in English for laundry chemicals.
- Effective organizational and communication skills.
- Multitask-oriented.
- Practical and organized in a small work area.
- Ability to overcome unexpected obstacles through resourceful means.
- Neat, professional appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Able to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
- Excels in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to communicate with guests, associates, and management.
- Ability to take direction from hotel and housekeeping management.
- Ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, follow-through courtesy, cooperativeness and work with a minimum of supervision.

- Supervise the daily activities of the laundry staff as being productive, safe, and professional.
- Ensure all staff are properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties.
- Monitor performance, conduct retraining as needed, and make recommendations for disciplinary action and other human resource related actions to housekeeping management. Immediately alert housekeeping management of potentially serious issues.
- Inspect the work of laundry attendants to ensure that appropriate chemicals are being used and that laundry area is kept clean and in compliance with applicable regulations
- Pressing sheets, pillowcases, napkins, and banquet table linens.
- Ensure the equipment is prepared and operational for the day’s work. Report all safety and maintenance issues to Engineering staff and housekeeping management immediately
- Identifying and treating stains for linens and towels where the stains did not come out the first time.
- Create a safe working environment for laundry attendants and all other hotel staff members that enter the laundry department.
- Ensure Hotel’s appointed Dry-Cleaning company picks up and delivers guest and employee laundry each day. Check invoice sheet each day to ensure proper items are being dropped off for guests and staff members. Alert housekeeping managers or supervisors regarding laundry delivery to have guest items delivered to the guest rooms.
- Ensure guest satisfaction by assisting housekeeping supervisors and management by ensuring special guests requests for bed linens and towels are carried out properly
- Alert housekeeping managers of ordering requests for laundry chemicals.
- Ensuring the proper washing codes as posted in the laundry department are entered in properly into the washing machines for the correct items being washed.
- Washing and drying all linen, towels, rags, and Banquet linens.
- Pressing sheets, pillowcases, napkins, and Banquet table linens.
- Identifying and treating stains for linens and towels where the stains did not come out the first time.
- Folding all the clean laundry.
- Occasionally working late to bring in new linens and towels into inventory.
- Stock shelves and houseman carts with clean folded linen and towels
- Record pound loads daily. Each cycle must be recorded.
- Constant communication with housemen, housekeeping supervisors, laundry supervisor, management and Food & Beverage management when certain items requested are ready.
- Ensure overall cleanliness in the laundry department.
- Take care in laundry equipment by immediately reporting maintenance issues to management and the Engineering staff.
- Ensure chemicals are used as directed by OSHA regulations and Hotel Valencia Riverwalk standards.
- Report any safety issues to management immediately.
- Ensuring the proper washing codes as posted in the laundry department are entered in properly into the washing machines for the correct items being washed.
- Ensuring the proper drying times for Hot & Cold as posted above each machine are entered in properly into the drying machines for the correct items being dried.
- Ensure all items are sorted accordingly.
- Ensure no dirty linen is set aside to be placed on the floors after being washed. Only clean linen free of stains should be sent upstairs for the guest rooms.
