TITLE: Literacy Coach/Interventionist  

                                             

LICENSURE QUALIFICATIONS: 

Master’s degree preferred.   Level Two Teacher Certification and classroom experience preferred.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal, District Literacy Coach, and Director of Federal Programs

 

 

Begin Date: Beginning of 2026/2027 School Year

 

 

The Reading Interventionist implements and maintains the Comprehensive Literacy Program

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

    1. Collaborates with principal, District Literacy Coach, and building leadership team in the deployment of Comprehensive Literacy Framework.
    2. Performs professional responsibilities as required by PMSD policies, processes, and procedures.
    3. Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the strategic plan.
    4. Reports ready to work and on time to perform responsibilities.
    5. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the PMSD.
    6. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all PMSD matters.
    7. Gathers student data, compiles reports for principal to discuss results with staff to inform instruction. (Assessment)
    8. Plans and works collaboratively with all teachers at the campus to improve student achievement and increase the number of proficient students.
    9. Oversees the organization and use of the literacy inventory.
    10. With classroom teachers, adheres to the Parent Involvement Plan.
    11. Takes an active part in the training and planning at district level and site level.
    12. Models or facilitates components of the literacy framework in the classroom as needed.
    13. Observes students in classrooms as needed.
    14. Coaches teachers for analysis and reflection on best practices which could result in shifts in teaching behaviors.
    15. Checks for fidelity to the literacy plan.
    16. Collects data throughout the year and presents during district/school data meetings
    17. Upholds and adheres to the regulations of Title I.
    18. Facilitate/attend PLC’s or data meetings to inform instruction.
    19. Performs other comprehensive literacy related duties as assigned. 
    20. Teach a minimum of two groups a day.
    21. Attends professional development trainings as appropriate.
    22. Responsible for preparation of annual end of year site report.
    23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:  

 

Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 lbs), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

 

An FBI fingerprint background check will be conducted on all new hires of the Portales Municipal Schools. Continued employment will be contingent upon the results of the background check.

 

The position is open until filled.

 

Portales Municipal Schools are located in the City of Portales, which has a population of about 12,000. The area's economy is based primarily on agriculture. Portales is the home of Eastern New Mexico University and is less than 20 miles from Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, NM.

 

The Portales Municipal School District consists of six grade-level schools. This means that each school, except the high school, consists of two grade levels and is not community-based. Portales High School houses grades 9-12, while Brown Early Childhood Center is grades PK-K; James Elementary is 1st and 2nd grade; Valencia Elementary consists of grades 3rd and 4th; Lindsey/Steiner Elementary is grades 5th and 6th; and Portales Junior High is the home of 7th and 8th-grade students.

 

Salary : $56,503 - $82,200
