JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: RECREATION SPECIALIST

MILDRED HUNTER COMMUNITY CENTER DEPARTMENT

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs tasks in assisting with the planning, organizing, and supervising of Mildred Hunter programs. Work involves performing duties of part-time personnel in their absence; assisting with scheduling of the use of athletic facilities, preparing requisitions and reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchasing and delivering supplies and equipment for program; addressing inquiries regarding program by electronic mail and telephone; preparing facilities for use; and performing other duties as assigned. Reports to the Mildred Hunter Center Recreation Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with planning, organizing and coordinating all youth athletic programs, weekend tournaments, and special events, within budget constraints.

Assists with training and supervising personnel (e.g., officials, score keepers) for athletic programs; performs duties of part time personnel in their absence.

Assists with scheduling the use of athletic facilities for outside groups.

Assists with requisitions, reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchasing all supplies and equipment for youth athletic programs.

Assists with addressing inquiries regarding athletic programs by telephone.

Cleans and organizes to keep facilities safe and organized.

Assists in the day-to-day operations of various community service and center events and programs such as men and women’s basketball league, drill team, Intervention Guidance Program, Summer Camp, computer classes, after school tutoring, senior citizen program, female mentoring program, and other special events.

Collects participants’ revenue to include basketball, concessions, pool, summer camp, and other program activities and facilitates accurate receipt process.

Operates a variety of vehicles, equipment and machinery such as a truck, car, computer, printer, calculator, phone, etc.

Uses a variety of tools such as shovel, rake, hoe, water hose, standard office tools, etc.; a variety of supplies such as clay, cleaning chemicals, wood, general office supplies, etc. and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Executive Director, coworkers, other department heads and staff, community organizations and participants, and the general public.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs general administrative / clerical duties as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, entering computer data, attending meetings, etc.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma, GED, or related field supplemented by one year of responsible experience in recreation programming, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
