JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
ESOL Teacher – S. L. Mason Elementary School
Position Summary
Provides language instruction for students that qualify for ESOL services. Provides training on strategies teachers can use to empower English Learners (EL) to gain the most from their classroom experience. Provides any other service that will raise awareness of ESOL students’ needs and will increase students’ participation in their educational experience.
Certificate/License Requirements
Applicant must hold a valid Georgia endorsement in ESOL and clear renewable teaching certificate.
Duties/Responsibilities
Assures compliance with State and Federal regulations for the ESOL program. Provides support specifically in the areas of building language skills and creating language experiences for students of other languages. Monitors home language surveys and administers age appropriate language screening assessments (W-APT). Maintains all required documentation for monitoring purposes in an organized manner as outlined by the District Coordinator. Collaborates with administrators, counselors, and classroom teachers to develop appropriate instructional/testing accommodations for ELs. Monitors student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals throughout the year. Communicates with classroom teachers and parents regularly about the academic progress of ELs. Participates in and develops professional learning opportunities for staff members that will enhance the ESOL program within the school. Selects and requisitions books and supplies and maintains required inventory. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs on a District level. Cooperates with other professional staff members and classified personnel. Maintains professional competence through self-selected professional growth activities. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Other duties may be assigned.
SALARY: TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Commensurate with education and experience 10 Months
