Description

The Waterproofing Divisional (WP) Environmental, Safety and Health (EHS) Manager reports to the VP, Waterproofing Division Operations with indirect reporting to the Corporate Director of Environmental, Safety and Health. The EHS manager will work with the EHS Department to plan, direct, and implement Valcourt’s health and safety and environmental programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment at the Waterproofing division, region and branch level. This position is responsible for the compliance by WP regions and branches with all safety and environmental regulatory agencies. Areas of specialty for this position will focus on safety and environmental compliance monitoring and reporting for the WP division. This position would also provide technical support and respond to emergency situations at any of the WP division branches when they arise.  They would act as the primary EHS contact and subject matter expert (SME) for Valcourt Operations at the WP divisional level related to compliance with the company’s EHS Programs and Policies as well as the regulations and permits which govern the business.  The role is pivotal to mitigating the WP division’s exposure to risk by leading, planning, coordinating, and implementing Valcourt’s EHS management systems in their respective regions and branches.  This requires the application of EHS management principles, such as job safety analysis, task-based evaluations, EHS related systems technology and root cause analysis to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions and regulatory compliance issues.  The overarching goal is to ensure Waterproofing Branch EHS Managers are working to strategically prevent and correct unsafe working conditions and behaviors as well as those that may impact our regulatory compliance. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Plans, develops, implements, and oversees Valcourt’s EHS programs at the division, region and branch level; coordinates and assists with the region and branch level safety committees.
  2. Ensures data integrity and accuracy for EHS for injury and illnesses, training, OSHA recordability, audits, and inspections, leading and lagging indicators, and other EHS related data as set forth by Valcourt.
  3. Conducts site safety audits regularly with branch level teams to spot check safety values and to also coach, teach and mentor local EHS and operational talent about all aspects of safety performance.
  4. Works with region and branch management, branch safety representatives, and corporate EHS Department to promote Valcourt’s safety culture.
  5. Communicates closely with both divisional, regional and branch operations and Valcourt EHS team members and can independently manage day-to-day safety compliance so Valcourt’s EHS goals are reached throughout the WP division.  
  6. Provides leadership in developing, implementing, and managing EHS policies, programs, and practices to regional management, branch management and employees. 
  7. Oversees the branches EHS documentation for various Valcourt programs and regulatory requirements.
  8. Plans and implements programs to train regional VPs, branch managers, supervisors, and employees to meet standards and to enhance Valcourt’s safety culture.
  9. Oversees specific Train-the-Trainer courses to train all aspects of fall protection such as rope descent, mobile aerial work platform usage, work access equipment usage, building maintenance units, etc. 
  10. Oversees and assists with employee safety, special projects, worker's compensation program and assists with the company’s contractor safety program.
  11. Oversees Valcourt’s emergency response to safety, health, and environmental incidents and injuries at the branch level.
  12. Oversees and assists with the investigation of incidents and injuries from initial report to closure for the branch.
  13. Leads and oversees the implementation of corrective actions arising from EHS audits, incidents, site improvements, safety programs, and other safety related initiatives for the WP division.
  14. Leads and assists with management of change process as it relates to safety, health, and environmental issues for the WP division.
  15. Proactively identifies safety, health, and environmental related matters and recommends, develops, and implements solutions for the WP division.
  16. Engages and assists Valcourt’s Safety Team with safety initiatives, programs, audits, and overall EHS program management for continuous improvements.
  17. Provide EHS data and information to VP’s, RVP’s, and waterproofing  sales and operational managers.
  18. Assist EHS Managers and Branch Management with EHS related matters (e.g., incident reporting, EHS programs, compliance history, incident data, COI, etc.)
  19. Review annual OSHA logs for WP branches for accuracy and timely posting.
  20. Proactively identifies safety, health, and environmental related matters and recommends, develops, and implements solutions.

Qualifications


Experience, Knowledge, and Education Requirements

Education and Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university or significant field Environmental, Health & Safety related experience required.
  • 8 to 15 years minimum related experience in Health & Safety Program development and implementation and training.
  • ASP or IHIT certification preferred.
  • Construction industry experience preferred.
  • Understanding of OSHA/ANSI/NFPA regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience in coordinating and supporting EPA/OSHA regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience in delivering formal or informal training to managers and employees required.
  • Experience in MS Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS Office tools.

 

Communication and Leadership Skills

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of field operations personnel, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Able to work with and influence employees, managers and leaders without formal or direct authority.
  • Ability to convey complex information or data to individuals at all levels.
  • Good communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to regularly access and use general office equipment including phones, computers, copiers, etc.
  • Must be able to work at heights, climb ladders, stairs, MEWP, and other elevated workstations.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, often distracting work environment.
  • Must be able to work at outdoor environments in various hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 25 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation to drive to Valcourt locations.
  • Must have valid identification for domestic air travel.
  • Must be able to travel overnight regularly to the work locations.
  • Must be able to travel at moment’s notice to Valcourt’s locations when required.
