Valco Melton is now seeking a Sales Engineer to join the Market Development team at our world headquarters in Cincinnati.
Reporting to the Director of Market Development, the Sales Engineer will focus on driving business growth for Valco Melton in new or emerging markets by developing and closing opportunities within those target markets. This role will also work on identifying and qualifying new applications for Valco Melton’s products across all industries. Overall, this role combines engineering ability with solution‑based selling to build Valco Melton’s application offerings and increase market share in emerging markets.
Regular travel, both domestic and international, will be required in this role. Although travel percentage may fluctuate, approximately 50% travel will be expected overall.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities within target markets, with a primary focus on expanding Valco Melton’s market share in new and emerging markets.
- Utilize technical expertise when engaging with prospects and customers to uncover unmet needs, define process requirements, and offer engineered solutions that deliver measurable performance and ROI.
- Develop deep expertise in Valco Melton’s technologies, application methods, and system capabilities to support effective selling and competitive differentiation.
- Apply engineering principles and product expertise to analyze customer processes and performance objectives, translating this analysis into viable system recommendations.
- Prepare and deliver customer‑facing technical presentations, application proposals, and business cases that clearly articulate key performance advantages and total‑value benefits.
- Provide high‑level technical support during installations, start‑ups, and initial production runs to ensure successful adoption of new coating solutions and long‑term customer satisfaction.
- Continuously assess market trends, competitive activity, and customer feedback to identify new applications and product development opportunities.
- Transition new products into our standard sales and technician support systems upon the success of each new execution.
Required Skills / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering.
- Some prior work experience in an engineering- or sales- related role (internships and co-ops qualify).
- Strong sales mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, influence technical buying decisions, and drive new business development.
- Ability to evaluate complex processes and recommend engineered systems tailored to performance, quality, and production objectives.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into clear customer value propositions.
- Solid project coordination and analytical skills, with comfort managing complex, multi-step sales projects.
- Ability to maintain a passport and travel both domestically and internationally up to 50%.
Preferred Skills / Experience:
- Demonstrated engineering or sales experience with web handling, vision inspection, or fluid handling solutions.
- Experience working independently in a field‑based or customer‑facing role, including regular regional and national travel.
