Job Summary
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and leading all HS&E related programs, policies, practices and procedures for the company’s U.S. operations, including both manufacturing and distribution facilities. The HSE Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of proactive safety excellence and environmental stewardship.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and leading all HS&E related programs, policies, practices and procedures for the company’s U.S. operations, including both manufacturing and distribution facilities. The HSE Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of proactive safety excellence and environmental stewardship.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Serves as HSE leader for the company’s U.S. Operations, promoting a proactive safety culture. Develops and implements procedures and strategies to ensure a safe work environment that is compliant with all relevant safety, health and environmental regulations and guidelines and in keeping with best practices. Observes the parameters of the collective bargaining agreement where applicable.
- Periodically conducts thorough safety audits, risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety and environmental risks. Develops and executes strategies to mitigate them.
- Designs and delivers training programs for employees, visitors and contractors on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Responsible for managing the company’s forklift certification program, ensuring that all individuals operating forklifts and material handling equipment are current on their training and certifications.
- Leads investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Leads program to ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) for chemicals in our facilities are properly cataloged and readily available to employees in a timely manner, as required by applicable regulations and in keeping with best practices.
- Drives HSE related continuous improvement initiatives, seeking innovative ways to enhance safety practices and minimize any impact to the environment from the company’s operations. Analyzes HSE data to track trends, identify areas for improvement and report on key performance indicators.
- Leads the company’s safety committee.
- Creates and maintains a comprehensive emergency response plan for each company location to ensure readiness for potential crisis. Conducts drills in accordance with relevant regulations and in keeping with best practices.
- Responsible for ensuring the completion of all required HSE related recordkeeping, reporting and posting requirements, such as OSHA’s form 300.
- Works with carrier in the management of the company’s worker’s compensation cases.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies, industry associations and the local community to foster positive relationships and promote the company’s commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.

- Strong knowledge of all relevant health, safety and environmental regulations as well as best practices, and their application in heavy manufacturing and distribution environments.

- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
- At least 5 years in a health, safety and environmental leadership role in a manufacturing environment is required.
