What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Assistant to County Judge position at Val Verde County?
Assists the County Judge in Administrative Operations of the office. Ensures the smooth and proper operation of the County Judge’s Office in order to serve the people of Val Verde County.
* Ability to write, apply for and administer grants as necessary.
- Supplies administrative support services to the County Judge.
- Assigns responsibility to Judge’s staff for analyzing complex information or data.
- Prepares written reports to the County Judge as requested.
- Oversees, and alters, when necessary, administrative procedures and processes with the County Judge’s approval.
- Assists with budget preparation and other major projects as necessary.
- Represents the County Judge by attending meetings in the Judge’s absence; speaking for the County Judge in a wide variety of events or meetings.
- Completes work by assigning work to Judge’s other staff and follows up on results to ensure completion.
- Represents the County Judge in public meetings and other functions including speaking at such when requested to do so by the Judge.
- Maintains communication and good working relations with other governmental offices.
- Travels for purposes of education and representation of County, including travel necessary for grant administration.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publication; establishing job related networks and is encouraged to participate in professional organizations related to the position.

Employment Qualifications
Three years of relevant experience in Administration or a College Degree preferred.
- Both written and oral command of the English language and grammar.
- Spanish speaking preferred but not required
- Accounting and business finance experience.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Ability to write, apply for and administer grants as necessary.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment (i.e. fax, phone, computer) and proficiency with software such as Excel, WordPerfect, Word and others as necessary.
- Ability to supervise others in a manner that keeps administrative functions of the office flowing.
