Purpose: Vail Mountain School coaches instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in their sport. At the same time, the coach will provide instruction and inspiration that will create a positive team culture inclusive of collaboration, the recognition for interdependence, sportsmanship, lessons in character, and that will lead to the further development of values, pride of accomplishment, prosocial behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
Girls Volleyball - JV Head Coach & Assistant Coach
Practices: 4:30-6:30 pm Monday - Friday
Games: 18-23 plus potential weekend tournaments
Assistant Coach Compensation: $3750 plus additional for driving and season length
JV Head Coach Compensation: $3250 plus additional for driving and season length
Season: August to November
We are looking for two dynamic and personable volleyball coaches for our Upper School Volleyball Program. A love and understanding of the game is important.

Primary Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents and athletes regarding practice schedules and game schedules for the week.
- Conduct practices that are both effective and enjoyable.
- Encourage players to uphold strong character and sportsmanship.
- Have fun!
- A “raise your hand” type of person. As a coach you are interested in supporting your student athletes both at school and on the field. You are ready to help with parent pickup, uniform distribution, and building community with your players and families
- Have general knowledge of CHSAA rules and regulations or applicable rules and regulations based on your sport. You are responsible for implementing these policies for students athletes.
- Responsible for knowledge, understanding and enforcing all aspects of the VMS Athletic Handbook.
- Successful coaching experience in assigned sport as well as the ability to organize and supervise a sports team
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and interested in continuing to examine new ideas
- Communicative leaders committed to working directly with the Athletic Director, Athletic Department, Athletic Trainers, and VMS employees to ensure a successful student experience.
- Demonstrate effective problem solving skills
- Promote the sport within the school, county, and beyond. You are ready to be a positive role model
- Promotes the well being of student athletes
- Understand the balance of athletics, academics and family in students’ lives
- Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques that will be taught.
- Complete all assigned “RSchools” (online platform) documentation including proof of CPR, Concussion Training Protocol, and Student Mental Health.
- Meet and/or communicate with parents and participants prior to the start of the sport season to provide program expectations, procedures and policies
- Transport athletes using VMS transportation to necessary locations. Coaches will be paid an additional $10/hour after the first hour of required driving.
- Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled practices/sporting events or and adheres to scheduled facility times.
- In conjunction with the Head Coach, monitor student athlete’s grades and conduct in regards to eligibility.
- Supervise athletic participants from the time they report to the practice site or game until they leave at the conclusion of the activity.
- Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete participant.
- Instill respect for equipment and school property, their care, and proper use in each player.
- Attend all practices, games, and provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
- Maintain good public relations with news media, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
- Utilize only team building exercises that do not include harassment or hazing
