Grant Accounting Specialist

Location: Elyria, Ohio
Work Arrangement: On-site for the first 90 days, with the opportunity to work remotely two days per week thereafter

We're seeking a Grant Accounting Specialist to support the financial management and reporting of grants, restricted funds, contracts, and other funded programs.

• Manage Fund Accounting Activities: Review financial transactions, research account details, and recommend journal entries and account transfers to maintain accurate financial records.

• Support Grant Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports for federal, state, local, and privately funded grants, contracts, and gifts.

• Perform Account Reconciliations: Complete monthly reconciliations for assigned grants and restricted accounts, investigating discrepancies and helping resolve issues.

• Maintain Financial Compliance: Review expenditures and financial documentation to ensure transactions are properly classified, recorded, and supported.

• Review Payroll Allocations: Assist with reviewing time and effort reporting for employees funded through restricted accounts and recommend necessary general ledger corrections.

• Support Audits and Reviews: Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records and provide supporting documentation for audits, financial reviews, and other inquiries.

• Assist With Award Management: Help ensure grant funds are managed in accordance with applicable accounting procedures, funding requirements, and cash management guidelines.

• Collaborate Across Departments: Work with accounting leadership, program managers, and other internal partners to answer questions, support grant activities, and promote accurate financial reporting.

• Monitor Transactions and Deadlines: Help ensure timely completion of financial transactions, billings, collections, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.
  
  

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• At least 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience.

• Fund accounting experience is required.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze financial data and support reporting and reconciliation activities.

• Experience in nonprofit organizations, higher education, government, municipalities, or similar environments is strongly preferred.

• Understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and recommend solutions.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to work with colleagues across multiple departments.
