CONTROLLER

Our client, a growing manufacturing company in the Raleigh/Durham area is looking to hire their first Controller. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting and financial reporting functions and will oversee a team. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this position will ensure accurate and timely financial information while supporting the business with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable working in a small manufacturing environment and partnering with both Finance and Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and cash management.
• Manage the monthly and year-end close process and ensure financial statements are accurate and timely.
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Manage the company's annual budget and ongoing financial forecast.
• Analyze actual results compared to budget and forecast and communicate significant variances.
• Oversee inventory accounting, including raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Monitor manufacturing costs, product costs, labor, overhead, and production variances.
• Maintain accurate account reconciliations and financial records.
• Develop and maintain effective accounting policies and internal controls.
• Work closely with Operations to understand costs, improve processes, and support profitability.
• Assist with audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.
• Support the VP of Finance with financial analysis and special projects.
• Supervise and support accounting staff, as applicable.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with Controller or similar experience preferred.
• Manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
• Strong Excel and ERP system skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a hands-on environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
