Position Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager supports the Operations Manager in overseeing daily security operations at assigned ports, with a primary focus on employee relations, workforce management, and supervisory oversight. This role serves as a key liaison between Field Supervisors, Security Officers, and management, ensuring consistent enforcement of company policies, professional conduct, and regulatory compliance.
The Assistant Operations Manager plays a critical role in addressing employee concerns, managing performance issues, supporting disciplinary processes, and promoting a positive, compliant, and accountable work environment while maintaining operational continuity across port and terminal locations.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Workforce Management
- Serve as the first point of escalation for employee relations matters involving Field Supervisors and Security Officers
- Address employee concerns, complaints, conflicts, and workplace issues in a timely, professional, and compliant manner
- Partner closely with Field Supervisors to coach, counsel, and guide employees on performance expectations, conduct, attendance, and policy adherence
- Support and participate in progressive discipline, including verbal counseling, written warnings, suspensions, and terminations, in coordination with HR and Operations Management
- Assist with workplace investigations related to misconduct, policy violations, attendance issues, and operational incidents
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, fairness, and compliance
Field Supervisor Oversight & Support
- Provide daily guidance and direction to Field Supervisors to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures
- Monitor supervisor effectiveness in managing staff, scheduling, incident reporting, and employee conduct
- Identify training or performance gaps among supervisors and recommend corrective actions or coaching plans
- Ensure Field Supervisors properly document employee issues, incidents, and corrective actions
Operational & Security Oversight
- Support daily port and terminal security operations, ensuring staffing coverage and service continuity
- Assist with safeguard services, crew repatriation operations, and coordination with port authorities and clients
- Monitor compliance with MTSA, TSA, SIDA, TWIC, and other applicable federal, state, and port regulations
- Respond to operational incidents, emergencies, and client concerns as needed
Compliance, Reporting & Documentation
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of incident reports, employee documentation, and supervisory records
- Review reports submitted by Field Supervisors for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee and operational matters
Client & Internal Coordination
- Act as a communication bridge between clients, Field Supervisors, and Operations Management
- Address service-related concerns while balancing operational needs and employee relations considerations
- Support audits, inspections, and client reviews as required
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in security operations, operations management, or supervisory roles
- Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary actions
- Strong working knowledge of port security operations, MTSA/TSA requirements, and access control protocols preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to manage sensitive employee matters with discretion and professionalism
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as operationally required
