We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our accounting practices. Responsibilities
- Oversee accuracy and timelines of payroll processing
- Assist the construction team in achieving profit and overhead objectives by ensuring all budgeted items and forecasted costs are accurately reflected across systems and reconciling discrepancies between systems
- Mitigate risk for V.K. Knowlton by managing the construction team's budget and reforecast reporting processes, and identifying and resolving control gaps.
- Coordinate budget workflow procedures between the construction and accounting teams to ensure seamless financial operations
- Serve as the liaison between the construction Accounting Team and Project Teams to ensure draws are submitted accurately and on time.
- Perform daily accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger transactions.
- Completion and preparation of monthly financial reports and statements ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Review the company’s monthly and yearly closing which includes creating and inputting journal entries; preparation of WIP schedule; run various tie-out and balancing reports to ensure job cost and the general ledger balance; and calculate, input and balance indirect and labor burden.
- Ensures compliance with all internal controls.
- Conduct cash flow forecasting to support strategic planning.
- Prepare and maintain weekly subcontractor payment schedules to guarantee timely payments.
- Maintain internal controls tailored to construction accounting process.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for construction accounting policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with auditors for completion of annual audit
- Work with CPA firm for tax preparation.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll and fuel reports which include: 401K reports; W-2s, 941, 940 & TWC reports; and dyed diesel reports and heavy highway reports.
- Oversee the fuel reporting by calculating the monthly MC-30 and inputting into job cost, and reconciliation of Account 1111 and generate billing.
- Manage the collection process which includes receiving deposits, post to customer account, review past due accounts, and prepare notices and/or liens for submission.
- Liaison between the accounting software and end users by providing technical support of the software system.
- Train staff on proper company accounting procedures.
- Handles special projects as requested by the owners and/or Management.
Experience Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting
Extensive experience with financial management software including Viewpoint by Vista with 10 years background in construction accounting and finance
Construction administrative experience to include WIP schedule experience.
Proven experience in corporate accounting or public accounting roles with a strong understanding of technical accounting principles including WIP schedule experience
Strong background in account reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, account analysis, and double-entry bookkeeping.
Skilled in financial report writing, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis to support organizational goals.
Excellent analytical skills combined with a high level of financial acumen; ability to interpret complex data accurately.
