Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Teaching Faculty III Job Summary: The Department of Kinesiology seeks candidates with specific experience in advising Physical Education (PE) majors and expertise in key areas including technology integration in PE, Cultural Foundations of PE, supervision of student teaching, and instructional approaches grounded in cooperative learning and social-emotional learning frameworks. Additional areas of focus for this position include teaching CPR/First Aid/AED courses and Health Education classes. This position may also provide teaching support within the Kinesiology Department, depending on the candidate’s background and experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in PE pedagogy, assessment practices in PE, curriculum development, a school teaching background, and a demonstrated ability to foster community building. Experience in additional PE content areas such as Adapted Physical Education (APE) and Health Education is also valued. Provides instruction in classroom, online, and/or laboratory settings across multiple courses. Responsibilities include grading, serving as instructor of record, and contributing to the design and implementation of administrative functions related to academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Key Job Responsibilities: Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and trains faculty and other instructional staff in use of said instructional techniques and programs Serve as mentor to students by supporting their academic and professional growth by actively engaging in professional development (conference attendance and presentations) in disciple specific organizations for PETE/HE/APE, contributing to the PETE/HE/APE program. This position also supervises student teaching/observation/practicum experiences of students, thus having experience teaching at K-12 PE is required. The prospective candidate is expected to participate in PETE/HE/APE program and SOE/college community events and activities throughout the academic year. Presents evaluations of teaching methods and techniques to those in the institution and elsewhere Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed Develops grant proposals for instructional development and may serve as principal or co-principal investigator on grants to develop new teaching methods in the discipline May administer budget and personnel for instructional grants and programs Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties Designs curriculum and/or techniques for instruction in a disciplinary area and suggests new ways of effective instruction in courses within that discipline Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements Department: The Department of Kinesiology is a multidisciplinary department that includes undergraduate programs in Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Health Promotion and Health Equity as well as nationally ranked graduate programs in Exercise and Movement Science, Athletic Training, and Occupational Therapy. The Department of Kinesiology resides in the UW-Madison School of Education, which is regularly ranked as one of the top Schools of Education in the nation. Compensation: Minimum: $66,000 annually Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Required Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years teaching experience as per DPI required to supervise in schools. Demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills including engagement in inter professional, collaborative, and collegial interactions. Demonstrated knowledge of Physical Education pedagogy, including curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices. Knowledge of technology integration in Physical Education settings to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Ability to effectively supervise and mentor student teachers in school-based practicum placements. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in additional PE content areas, including Adapted Physical Education and Health Education. Education: Required: Master’s Degree in Physical Education or related field Preferred: Ph.D./Ed.D.
