Virtual Academy Teacher (Grades 6–12)

Uwharrie Charter Academy 

This position is not a remote position. It will be in-person and on-campus. 

Position Overview

The Virtual Academy Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality virtual instruction to students in grades 6–12 in a North Carolina public school setting. The ideal candidate is student-centered, highly organized, technologically proficient, and committed to fostering academic growth and engagement in an online learning environment.

Teachers will deliver standards-aligned instruction, maintain regular communication with students and families, monitor student progress, and support students academically and socially through virtual platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging synchronous and asynchronous instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
• Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments for virtual learning.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff through effective communication.
• Monitor student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
• Provide timely feedback on assignments, assessments, and student performance.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Utilize learning management systems, video conferencing platforms, and educational technology tools effectively.
• Maintain accurate student records and documentation in accordance with school and state requirements.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and school events as required.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success.
• Support and enforce school policies, procedures, and expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid North Carolina teaching license.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with instructional technology and virtual learning platforms.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous online or blended teaching experience.
• Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
• Experience working at different grade levels and differentiating curriculum for students.
• Familiarity with Google Classroom, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, NCVPS, Graduation Alliance, or similar platforms.
• Strong classroom management skills in a virtual environment.

• Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work extended periods at a computer.
• Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email.
