Virtual Academy Teacher (Grades 6–12)

This position is not a remote position. It will be in-person and on-campus.
Position Overview
The Virtual Academy Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality virtual instruction to students in grades 6–12 in a North Carolina public school setting. The ideal candidate is student-centered, highly organized, technologically proficient, and committed to fostering academic growth and engagement in an online learning environment.
Teachers will deliver standards-aligned instruction, maintain regular communication with students and families, monitor student progress, and support students academically and socially through virtual platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging synchronous and asynchronous instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
- Develop and maintain lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments for virtual learning.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff through effective communication.
- Monitor student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
- Provide timely feedback on assignments, assessments, and student performance.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Utilize learning management systems, video conferencing platforms, and educational technology tools effectively.
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation in accordance with school and state requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and school events as required.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success.
- Support and enforce school policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid North Carolina teaching license.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and virtual learning platforms.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous online or blended teaching experience.
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
- Experience working at different grade levels and differentiating curriculum for students.
- Familiarity with Google Classroom, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, NCVPS, Graduation Alliance, or similar platforms.
- Strong classroom management skills in a virtual environment.

- Knowledge of best practices in virtual instruction and student engagement.
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to work extended periods at a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video conferencing, and email.
