Position Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and retention of volunteers who support hospital and hospice care programs. This role ensures volunteers are effectively integrated into care teams to enhance patient, family, and organizational support. The coordinator serves as the liaison between volunteers, clinical teams, patients, and families while maintaining compliance with all hospital and hospice regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategies to recruit, onboard, and train volunteers for hospital and hospice programs.

Conduct interviews, background checks, and orientation sessions for new volunteers.

Ensure compliance with hospital and hospice policies, including health, immunization, and training requirements.

Coordinate and maintain volunteer schedules across departments and hospice teams.

Match volunteers to assignments based on skills, interests, and program needs.

Communicate regularly with department leaders to identify new opportunities for volunteer support.

Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and feedback to volunteers in their roles.

Address volunteer concerns, assist with conflict resolution, and promote engagement.

Plan and organize volunteer recognition and appreciation events to encourage retention.

Monitor and evaluate volunteer program effectiveness using feedback, surveys, and performance data.

Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours, compliance documentation, and reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into patient care and support services.

Ensure compliance with hospital and hospice regulations, including HIPAA and Medicare Conditions of Participation for hospice care.

Participate in quality assurance initiatives, audits, and accreditation activities.

Maintain up-to-date program policies and procedures to reflect current standards and regulations.

Stay informed on volunteer management best practices and healthcare requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Services, or Healthcare Administration preferred.

Experience: One to three years of experience in volunteer coordination, human resources, or program management preferred.

Certification: Certification in Volunteer Administration (CVA) preferred or willingness to obtain.

Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer management software; ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
