We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our team, deliver high-quality respiratory care, and help improve the health and well-being of our patients.
Position Overview
The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive care to patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders. This role evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients using evidence-based respiratory care practices and advanced technology. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the Respiratory Therapist develops effective treatment plans, responds to emergencies, and ensures the safe operation of respiratory equipment. This position reports directly to the Respiratory Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate respiratory and cardiovascular status through physical assessments, diagnostic testing, and patient interviews.
- Administer oxygen therapy, manage mechanical ventilators, perform nebulizer treatments, and provide chest physiotherapy.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed; use specialized equipment to track respiratory function and vital signs.
- Provide instruction on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, equipment use, and preventive care strategies.
- Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies; perform life-saving interventions including CPR and intubation; manage acute respiratory distress.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of assessments, treatments, progress notes, and discharge information.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Manage the Stress Lab Case Machine during all stress examinations.
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of respiratory care equipment.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and all state, federal, and accreditation standards.
Qualifications
- Education: Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program required.
- Licensure & Certifications: Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required. Current BLS for Healthcare Providers required. ACLS and PALS certifications required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within six months of hire.
- Experience: Prior clinical experience preferred; new graduates may be considered.
- Skills & Abilities: Strong knowledge of respiratory care practices and equipment. Effective communication and patient-education skills. Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
