Position Summary
The Echo / Cardiac Stress Lab Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing cardiac stress tests and related diagnostic procedures. This role focuses on patient safety, clinical monitoring, medication administration, and collaboration with cardiologists, radiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate testing and exceptional patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients prior to cardiac stress testing, including medical history, current condition, and cardiac risk factors
- Educate patients on test procedures, risks, and post-procedure care
- Prepare and monitor patients during exercise and pharmacologic stress tests
- Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and patient response during testing
- Administer medications as ordered by the cardiologist or radiologist
- Recognize and respond to cardiac irregularities, arrhythmias, or signs of distress
- Initiate emergency interventions (CPR, defibrillation) when necessary
- Collaborate with cardiologists, radiologists, technicians, and nursing staff to ensure coordinated care
- Accurately document procedures, patient responses, and outcomes in the EMR
- Assist with setup, calibration, and operation of cardiac testing equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe testing environment
- Provide post-test instructions and follow-up guidance to patients
Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
Experience & Knowledge
- Cardiac nursing experience preferred (stress testing and/or echocardiography)
- Strong understanding of cardiac physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent patient assessment and communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency or high-stress situations
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
