At Uvalde Memorial Hospital, exceptional care begins with a welcoming experience. We are looking for a friendly, organized, and detail-oriented Patient Access Clerk to join our Clinics team and help patients feel supported from the moment they contact or arrive at our clinics.

As a Patient Access Clerk, you’ll be an important connection between our patients and their healthcare team. From scheduling appointments and completing registration to verifying insurance and answering questions, your work will help ensure every visit begins smoothly while supporting both an excellent patient experience and accurate clinic operations.

In This Role, You Will

• Welcome and register patients while providing friendly, professional customer service.
• Collect and maintain accurate demographic, insurance, financial, and clinical information.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits and help ensure required referral authorizations are in place.
• Help patients understand co-pays, deductibles, and other financial responsibilities associated with their care.
• Collect and accurately post point-of-service payments and process credit card transactions.
• Schedule appointments according to provider templates and assist new patients with the registration process.
• Answer incoming calls professionally and assist patients with scheduling, questions, and other needs.
• Maintain accurate patient information and documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Protect patient privacy and appropriately manage Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Encourage patients to utilize available resources, including the patient portal and satisfaction surveys.
• Perform cashiering responsibilities, including opening, balancing, and closing the cash drawer.
• Help maintain a welcoming, clean, and organized front desk and waiting area.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, Financial Counselors, and other team members to help patients navigate their care.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least one year of administrative support experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Previous billing and insurance experience preferred.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with the ability to multitask effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
• Experience with medical office software and Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a plus.
• A dependable, patient-focused professional who enjoys helping others and working as part of a team.
